Training to Teach: Pearson Professional Development for Teachers
Pearson Virtual Schools offers comprehensive administrator training and teacher development, and hands-on support to districts, families, and students.
Pearson delivers support of professional development for teachers through a robust combination of live synchronous training for teachers from learning facilitators specializing in digital instruction and platform-based individualized learning approaches, and asynchronous activities for teacher development through Pearson’s online resource portal. District teachers will gain an understanding of how to teach in the Pearson Connexus platform. Instruction includes how to:
- navigate in the courses, adjust access, and find and utilize materials
- engage and communicate with students
- grade assignments and provide targeted student feedback
- find and utilize analytical assessment information
- communicate with students in the platform
Beyond Training to Teach: Support and Training for Administrators
Pearson provides comprehensive online training expertly designed for the administrator role. Administrators will gain a thorough understanding of the administrative tools available in Pearson Connexus, including key tasks like how to provision users, copy courses, and enroll students and teachers into course sections.
Every administrator will have access to the Support Center, a one-stop training site to help make the most of our versatile Pearson Connexus platform. This site has dozens of professional development resources, including tutorials, user guides, and training materials. Districts will have access to various asynchronous support resources to refer to following initial onboarding and can schedule 30-minute synchronous help sessions via Ask a Trainer on the main menu. Administrators are welcome to share resources from Pearson Connexus Support or schedule a free, 30-minute help session with a learning facilitator.
For immediate staff assistance throughout the school year, the help desk is available for troubleshooting, information, and guidance for all questions and issues reported by schools and programs. The Help Desk answers questions related to the platform (functionality, permissions, roles, reports, etc.), LiveLesson® accounts (synchronous, direct instruction sessions), school or program procedures, and general how-to inquiries. Administrators and teachers can also access various support documents through Pearson Connexus Support.
Additional Support for Districts from Pearson Virtual Schools

- Coordinate a kick-off call with district representatives and Pearson stakeholders to ensure a smooth and successful implementation based on the district’s needs
- Drive successful academic performance for students
- Provide management support to the district and act as the single point of accountability and day-to-day contact
- Ensure curriculum, platform, and instructional resources are in place
- Manage district relationships and remain up-to-date on current district policies, procedures, and legislation
- Manage the implementation of the curriculum and school- operation protocols
- Resolve issues relating to the hardware, software, and services provided by Pearson
Implementation Specialist
Assisting in the set up and start of your program is a dedicated implementation specialist. Working with your District Success Partner during the program start-up phase, the implementation specialist gathers information to build a custom Pearson Connexus domain based on the district’s needs.

Synchronous Support for Students
Pearson Virtual Schools provides frequent opportunities for students to receive synchronous support from Pearson teachers within Pearson Connexus.
- LiveLesson are offered weekly for core courses. LiveLesson is an online teaching tool and meeting area accessed through a secured link within the platform, delivered using a market-leading web conferencing solution. A LiveLesson session allows teachers to communicate with their students synchronously (live) and asynchronously (recorded session). LiveLesson sessions provide real-time direct instruction with individual and small groups of students using voice-over IP, chat, electronic whiteboard, and shared presentation areas. These sessions allow teachers and students to interact with one another in real time in a virtual classroom.
- Targeted small group intervention sessions are offered weekly for small group intervention sessions focused on mastery of broader concepts.
- Teacher Time sessions (office hours) are offered three hours per week for students to drop in individually or work in small groups with their teacher.
- Students may also request 1:1 time with a teacher for additional support.
