Instructional Teachers For Your Online Education Programs
Pearson Virtual Schools teachers are highly qualified, credentialed, state-certified* and specifically trained in online instruction methods. Pearson's teachers provide a personalized learning experience and offer multiple opportunities for live synchronous instruction and academic support. From live classroom sessions to Teacher Time office hours to collaborative small group activities, Pearson teachers will engage with your students to foster concept mastery and academic confidence. Teachers also closely monitor each student's progress and share comprehensive feedback to ensure all students succeed enhancing the benefits of online learning.
Pearson teachers will:
- Send Welcome WebMail messages within 2-5 business days after the course start date to introduce themselves, share information about office hours and LiveLesson® times, and provide direct contact information
- Host LiveLesson sessions** (synchronous learning sessions) weekly for core courses (every other week/every few weeks for electives) and provide recordings for all virtual classes
- Provide daily live literacy instruction for students in kindergarten through second grade
- Meet twice weekly with K-5 students for Homeroom Huddle and DISH (Drop In and Say Hi) to build community
- Provide synchronous direct instruction (individual or small group) that is teacher-initiated or in response to student-initiated questions
- Use synchronous contacts to gauge student proficiency through curriculum-based assessments (CBAs)
- Provide additional synchronous support to students via targeted small group intervention sessions
- Hold regular Teacher Time office hours to provide availability for synchronous student support
- Respond to student requests for 1:1 support
- Implement virtual accommodations in addition to differentiated instructional approaches to students with disabilities to meet students' IEP/504 plans supplied by the district
- Respond to WebMail messages and telephone calls within one business day documenting phone interaction and outreach attempts in the Student Activity Tracker
- Grade assignments, provide descriptive feedback, and assign final grades for virtual classes
- Monitor student progress in virtual classes, moderate course discussions, and implement student support strategies
- Follow protocols for synchronous communication and support related to student progress monitoring

Pearson Advisory Teacher
In addition to subject matter teachers, Pearson online education programs provide an advisory teacher for every full-time student in grade 6-12. The advisor is an advocate for online students working with them and the student's other teachers. They aim to increase student success in courses by implementing processes and protocols emphasizing quality communications, effective data use, and accurate efforts documentation. Additionally, advisors aim to improve the student and family's overall benefit of the online learning experience and course success through collaboration and coordination of efforts with district success partners, teacher managers, teachers, and other internal stakeholders.
Advisory teachers will:
- Send welcome messages and orientation videos to ensure a smooth start to virtual classes
- Monitor student participation and performance in online study
- Help students navigate the Pearson Connexus platform and courses
- Facilitate communication between the student and the subject matter teacher(s) as needed
- Host monthly LiveLesson sessions focused on effective online study skills and executive function skill development
